Howard Carter discovered Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. What makes it special and different from the rest is that it remained virtually intact for 3,300 years, revealing more than 5,000 funerary artifacts that are now on display in this museum. Considering that the young Tutankhamun only reigned for 9 years (he ascended the throne at age 9 and died at around 18), imagine the treasure of Ramses II, the greatest pharaoh of Egypt, who reigned for 66 years. Unfortunately, most pharaonic tombs were looted for the riches they contained. Tutankhamun's is the exception, an incredible treasure of historical and cultural significance, and the greatest discovery in the history of archaeology.
