Ficus will do with most potting soil, but it seems that well-draining potting soil is better for root growth. To improve drainage, try a mix of 1 part commercial potting soil to 1 part Kanuma soil with a little perlite to make it lighter. To improve water retention, try a mix of 2 parts commercial potting soil to 1 part Kanuma soil. Adding Akadama increases water retention. The golden ratio for fruit tree potting soil, 7 parts Akadama to 3 parts leaf mold, seems to hold too much water and hinder root growth.
