Grand Gulch to Bears Ears: Solo Hike from Bryce to Bears Ears ep8 | Across Utah 4K

Part eight of my solo backpacking adventure from Bryce Canyon National Park to Bears Ears National Monument. This episode includes visiting the archaeological sites in the upper portion of Grand Gulch such as Split-Level Ruin and Junction Ruins. After exiting the canyon via Kane Gulch, I continue my journey toward Bears Ears via The Cedars Pioneer Trail and then a short excursion to Natural Bridges National Monument. After a great camp near Maverick Point, I tackle the final stretch of hiking to the Bears Ears iconic buttes. 3 Days 51 Miles 1 Big Surprise May 2021 ** NOTE ON THE TERM "RUINS" Throughout this series I use the term "ruin" to refer to the various archaeological sites throughout the canyons of the southern Utah. It's been brought to my attention that many indigenous people prefer the term "ancient structures" or "ancestral sites." Though still not reflected in official BLM Material, the Bears Ears Visitation Materials does suggest this updated verbiage. It will be a hard habit to break, but I hope to update my usage in future videos. ** NOTES ON HIKING THE GRAND GULCH This is a fragile environment so please be cautious when visiting. Do not touch any structure walls or rock art. Do not enter closed off areas and do not camp at archaeological sites. Leave all items where you find them and do your best to absolutely practice Leave No Trace.
