#BrazilianArmy #StrongBrace #FriendlyHand Candidate for UNESCO World Heritage Site, Coimbra Fort will undergo restoration 🇧🇷 ✅In the year that it celebrates its 250th anniversary, the Coimbra Fort, one of the oldest facilities of the Brazilian Army, will undergo restoration. Located in Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul, on the border between Brazil and Bolivia, the historic building will be renovated through a technical cooperation between the Army and the social organization APPA – Culture & Heritage. Due to its importance and symbolism, the Fort is one of the candidates for the title of World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). ✅ Built on September 13, 1775 and listed by the National Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage (Iphan) since 1974, the Coimbra Fort played a strategic role in the defense of Brazilian territory. The site also witnessed several conflicts, including the Paraguayan invasion that marked the beginning of the Paraguayan War in 1864. ✅ The revitalization of the building will also be accompanied by the construction of a road connecting the municipality of Corumbá to the Coimbra Fort, an action already announced by the government of Mato Grosso do Sul. The measure aims to facilitate land access and strengthen cultural tourism in the region.
