Historic La Grange & 1914 Bridge, La Grange Dredge, 1912 Basso Bridge & miners campsite, photo walk
La Grange, the name itself triggers so many memories of motorcycle and bicycle rides through this historic area of California's Gold Country - "The Mother Lode". I've been through here on more than one occasion as a tourist, but never spent an entire day just exploring the area with my history notes and cameras in-hand. There's a lot to see here, much to explore and endless opportunities to photograph some picturesque countryside and pieces of history around every bend in the road and turn on the trail. Wanting to return for awhile, a recent trip through the Midwest and some old bridges reminded me to take a day to explore some history not so far east of me. As much as I enjoyed walking the old and historic bridges, I found myself equally fascinated by the ruins of a mining dredge not so far from town, and an abandoned section of an old road into La Grange. Even the geology in this area is interesting, as we explore the old dredging area that in ancient times was once an ancient river bed from the Pleistocene period. How cool is that!? As always, we appreciate all of you tagging along for the journey. If you have any information or corrections to add regarding the content, please share with us all in the comments section below. We always enjoy hearing from all of you, your insights and experiences, and additional knowledge we all gain from you. Thank you! #La Grange #motherlode #bridges #californiahistory #historic
