UK PENSIONERS: Claim These Hidden DWP Payouts Before the Window Closes (£12,500+)
#DWP #StatePension #ukpension There is money in the British benefit system with your name on it right now — one payment alone is worth almost six thousand pounds a year, tax-free, and around a million people over State Pension age are entitled to it and claiming nothing. The DWP won't write. It won't ring. The only difference between the people who get this money and the people who don't is that somebody knew to ask. I'm Helen Hartley. In this video, I show you five payouts UK pensioners are entitled to right now — who qualifies, what each is worth, and the single step it takes to claim. All figures are for the 2026/27 tax year. WHAT'S COVERED — Attendance Allowance: the tax-free payment worth almost £6,000 a year that isn't means-tested — your income, savings and home don't count. Why a million people who qualify never claim, and why the date of your first phone call decides when your money starts. — Council Tax Reduction: how pensioners on the Guarantee part of Pension Credit can bring their bill down to zero — and why your council will never check this for you. — The State Pension underpayment: the DWP error that left married women and widows underpaid for years — average corrections of £5,553 and £11,725, paid as lump sums. Why women whose husbands retired before March 2008 must come forward themselves. — The refusal letter worth over £2,500 a year: the back-to-front route from a Carer's Allowance refusal to the Carer Addition inside Pension Credit — underlying entitlement, and why never applying is the only way to lose. — The £12,500 backdating window: how anyone past State Pension age who hasn't claimed can backdate by up to 12 months as one lump sum — the honest trade-off with deferral, and the hard 12-month clock. HOW TO CLAIM — THE TOOLKIT Attendance Allowance — ring 0800 731 0122 (Mon–Fri 8–6), ask for the AA1 form. Your claim starts from the date of that call. Free help: Age UK or Citizens Advice. In Scotland: Pension Age Disability Payment. Council Tax Reduction — apply to your own council: search "[your council] council tax reduction". If you get Guarantee Pension Credit, say so. Underpayment review — ring the Pension Service on 0800 731 0469. Ask for your State Pension to be checked for underpayment. Have your NI number and your husband's details ready. Carer Addition — Step 1: apply for Carer's Allowance (gov.uk/carers-allowance or 0800 731 0297). Step 2: when the letter confirms underlying entitlement, ring Pension Credit on 0800 99 1234 and ask for the Carer Addition. Caution: if the person you care for gets a severe disability addition, check the household as a whole first. Backdating — ring 0800 731 7898 and say you want your State Pension claim backdated to the earliest possible date. Maximum 12 months — don't wait. All 0800 numbers are free from UK landlines and mobiles. DISCLAIMER General educational information based on industry experience. Not regulated financial advice.
