In the middle of the Pampas plains, far from the noise of the cities and surrounded by miles of countryside, stands a building that seems out of place. A tower, balconies, stained-glass windows, majolica tiles, and an architecture that still commands respect amidst the silence. Today we explore Estancia San Alberto, a rural residence built in the 1920s by Josefina Errazuriz Alvear and her husband, Alberto Gómez de Tezanos Pinto, on land that in the 19th century belonged to the influential rancher and senator Diego Federico de Alvear. But the story of this place begins much earlier. In 1893, the San Ricardo Colony was planned, an attempt to populate and organize these vast rural expanses. That same year, the construction of a nearby railway station was authorized, first called Christophersen Station and later renamed General Iriarte Station, connecting these lands with the rest of the country. Decades later, the house stood empty. Today, Estancia San Alberto stands abandoned, weathered by time, yet still imposing. Its walls, its tower, and every detail continue to tell the story of an era when the countryside represented power, territory, and the future. Join me as we explore this place frozen in time.
