Brazil has the seventh highest rate of teenage pregnancy in South America. There are 65 pregnancies for every thousand girls aged 15 to 19, according to data from the United Nations Population Fund. In this age group or younger, pregnancy carries risks, mothers have the worst prenatal care and babies are born with lower birth weight.
