Presenter: Evgeny Afonasin, Doctor of Philosophy (St. Petersburg State University), Master of Arts in Medieval Studies, Professor at Novosibirsk State University (Faculty of Economics and Institute of Philosophy and Law), and Chief Research Fellow at the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He received his education at Novosibirsk State University, the Central European University (Budapest), and the University of Oxford. What is the origin of ancient mystery practices? How did Greek religious beliefs evolve from archaic times to the Classical Period? What is the criterion for distinguishing among the diverse ancient cults those considered mystery cults?
