Opened on June 28, 2011, the main station building follows the concept of “ancient capital, new station,” based on classical Chinese architectural elements—columns, bracketing (dougong), double eaves. The straight lines and elegant curves evoke both traditional grandeur and modern vitality. Six columns at the north entrance symbolize the “cultural lineage of the Six Dynasties capital”; eight columns at the south entrance welcome “guests from all directions”. The glass curtain walls feature brass openwork with traditional auspicious patterns, combining wooden lattice with modern materials like glass and aluminum. ——— Inside the metro station: another kind of scene. Nanjing South Station Metro is the largest underground station in the Nanjing Metro system, covering about 80,000 square meters. Four lines converge here—Lines 1, 3, S1, and S3—allowing seamless transfers without leaving the station. With 12 entrances/exits, it connects directly to the high‑speed rail station, long‑distance bus terminal, and bus hubs—a true “zero‑transfer” integrated transport hub. ——— On December 20, 2012, Nanjing South Station was named the “Bo’ai (Universal Love) Station.” The character “Bo’ai” was inscribed by Sun Yat‑sen at the entrance to Sun Yat‑sen Mausoleum, earning Nanjing the nickname “City of Universal Love”. The metro is the city‘s名片, and every day countless travelers pass through—Nanjing South Station embodies the city’s spirit of tolerance, courtesy, fraternity, and humility. On the west side of the station hall stands the world‘s largest “Bo’ai Wall.” Over 4,000 “love messages” form a mural of hands making heart gestures.
