Ugandans Gather at Embassy Ahead of South Africa Repatriation Deadline
With less than 24 hours countdown, Ugandans seeking repatriation from South Africa have gathered at the Ugandan Embassy in Pretoria to process travel documents ahead of a reported 30 June deadline targeting undocumented foreign nationals. The move also comes amid recurring anti-immigrant sentiment and fears of xenophobic attacks. Some of those at the embassy say they no longer feel safe and want to return home. However, Uganda's Ambassador to South Africa, Paul Amoru, together with Ugandan community leaders led by Moses Kibombo Ssentongo, have appealed for calm and urged Ugandans to remain peaceful as efforts to address their concerns continue.
