June 30 deadline arrives
As the June 30 deadline set by anti-immigrant groups in South Africa arrives, growing fears have prompted several African governments to evacuate their citizens. Kenya is among the countries facilitating the voluntary repatriation of nationals, particularly those with irregular immigration status, as authorities work to ensure their safety. While the South African government has insisted today is a normal working day and vowed to protect everyone within its borders, thousands of migrants have chosen to return home amid uncertainty and escalating tensions.
