The Byrds - Mr. Tambourine Man - Lead Guitar - Rickenbacker 360/12
Mr. Tambourine Man was recorded on 20 January 1965 at the Byrds first recording session. It was first released as a single on 12 April 1965, before their debut album was released on 21 June 1965. It reached #1 in the US and the UK later that year. Roger McGuinn was the only Byrd to play on the backing track (although Gene Clark may have played the tambourine when it was overdubbed), as session musicians were brought along for the first Byrds session. Besides Roger McGuinn, we've got Jerry Cole on rhythm guitar (likely a strat), Leon Russell on electric piano, and Hal Blaine on drums. Most sources list Larry Knechtel as the only bass player, but I've discovered that Bill Pitman also played bass on the session, so there were actually 2 basses being played on this track. I'll make another video on how I made this discovery in the future. I played the guitars and bass through a Vox AC30CC2X, and they were recorded with my sE Electronics 2200a II condenser mic. Andrew from Ably House played his Nord to get the electric piano sound. Roger McGuinn is using banjo fingerpicks on this, as he did with a lot of 12-string guitar parts.
