GREECE IN CONTEXT: Γιώργης Μαγγίνης / George Manginis

For Manginis, the image functions as a form of moral vindication for Kapodistrias. He also shares his idea for an exhibition and a book dedicated to the postwar philhellene designer Terence Harold Robsjohn-Gibbings, who, in collaboration with Eleftherios Saridis, created in Greece a renowned series of furniture inspired by Antiquity. He concludes by reflecting on the enduring idea of philhellenism, from Hadrian to contemporary figures, such as Stephen Fry and Victoria Hislop, and recommends the book Philhellenes by Jimmy Jamar as a wonderful introduction to the continuing love for Greece. RETHINKING GREECE IN AN EVER CHANGING WORLD As part of the collaboration between the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for Hellenic Studies at Simon Fraser University (Vancouver, Canada) and the Benaki Museum, formally established in 2024, the Benaki Museum presents the series Greece in Context. The series consists of eleven episodes in Greek and English, filmed within the Museum’s spaces, exploring aspects of Greek history and culture. Each episode hosts a guest speaker invited to share their views by responding to four central questions related to their work and their understanding of Greek culture.
