Exhuman en Sevilla los restos de las 17 rosas de Guillena.

Gerena (Seville), Jan 23 (EFE) - (Image: Manuel Rus) Archaeologists today began the exhumation of the women known as the "17 roses" of Guillena (Seville), who were shot in the cemetery of the neighboring town of Gerena just over 74 years ago for being relatives of Republican militants. The work was able to begin after numerous efforts to locate the mass grave and begin excavating in the San José cemetery in Gerena. A novel geoarchaeological excavation confirmed that beneath a row of niches lay the mass grave containing the bodies of the Republicans' wives, daughters, and sisters, aged between 24 and 70. Archaeologist Juan Luis Castro told EFE that he and his colleagues from the Arqueocativa cooperative are working on a voluntary basis due to the lack of public funding to complete the exhumation. Castro stated that within a month they expect to conclude "this episode that has caused so much pain and sadness to so many people."
