I Didn't Realize How Hard Game Development Really Is
This week I thought I was just going to add a few more enemies to my first indie game... Instead, I discovered that game development is far more interconnected than I ever imagined. Every new mechanic seemed to affect another system, and for the first time since starting this project, I seriously wondered if I had taken on something bigger than I could handle. In this devlog I share: • The new enemy behaviors I've built • My new Murmurmoth enemy and its summoning mechanic • Why balancing a game is harder than I expected • The biggest mistake I made this week • What I learned about planning before writing code • Where the game is headed next I'm documenting my journey as a 46-year-old husband, father, and first-time game developer building an indie game from scratch while balancing a full-time career and family life. If you've ever dreamed of creating something but weren't sure you were qualified, I hope this series encourages you to start anyway.
