Colocasia, Elephant Ear Plant, Taro, propagation, watering, planting, over winter care.

As an experiment I have propagated several #Colocasia #Esculenta plants. Also known as #taro this plant has an edible #corm and develops huge green leaves up to 60cm in diameter. It originates in asian climates and so iy needs warm, moist, humid conditions and will actually survice well in a bog or swamp. It is thirsty and hungry. It is not hardy in the UK winter and needs special care from autumn to spring. Plants in pots can be moved indoors and allowed to dry. Alternatively the corms can be dug up in the autumn and stored over winter on dry sand or compost in a cool dry place above freezing. They propogate by producing little plantlets around the old corm/rhyzome, these develop their own corm which is a carbohydrate store and can then be detached and planted up as separate plants. In this vide I am experimenting with posting this plant to see if I can set up a mini mail order plant business. Let me know about your experiences of buying plants online. Do you have any hints and tips for me? Thank you. Mark #gardens #gardening #marksgardenuk #gardendesign Please also visit my website: www.marksgardenUK.com email: [email protected]
