Cheongna Canal Way is a waterfront park that runs through the center of Cheongna International City in Seo-gu, Incheon. It stretches 4.5km from east to west along the waterfront park. It features a so-called "basement" commercial district, with commercial buildings lining both sides of the artificial waterway. Excluding the 150m section on either side of the station area, where Line 7 is scheduled to open, the rest of the area is a veritable vacancy bomb. Experts attribute the vacancy bomb to oversupply compared to demand. While the number of commercial spaces available in most regions nationwide decreased last year, Incheon saw a significant increase, from 3,778 to 4,999. Cheongna, in particular, saw a sharp increase in the number of stores between 2019 and 2021, both before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Cheongna, which averaged 400 stores per year over the past decade, saw 943 stores open in 2019 and 606 in 2021. Some predict that the commercial district will improve with the opening of the subway line 7 extension and the opening of Cheongna Dome Stadium and Starfield in 2027. However, the Cheongna Dome Stadium and Starfield are located approximately 2.5km from Canal Way, a significant distance.
