How To Mix Purple? It's NOT Just Red + Blue! Mixing Vibrant Purple Paint

Welcome to our FINAL tutorial on how to mix paint, specifically mixing purple paint. You can achieve both soft and vibrant purple, as well as muted shadow tones, but there's a bit of a trick. I've tried to talk about important colour theory, and show you what that looks like on the page. And here we are at PURPLE! And this is possibly one of the trickiest secondary colours to make. The reason has to do with the pigmentation within the tubes of paint, and how deeply saturated they are. Red and blue will make purple, yes, but you cannot achieve a VIBRANT purple from what comes out of the tubes. You need to introduce another colour to get there: Magenta. We're using acrylics paints for this (specifically Chromacryl brand, which simply says "warm" and "cool" on their bottles instead of named colours) but it's the same with oils and watercolours to an extent. Another colour you could consider using is "Quinacridone Pink" or "Permanent Rose" as opposed to something that simply says "Magenta". You will gain different shades and tones of purple depending on the brand, quality and colour you use.
