HUXLEY: La realtà che NON puoi vedere (Le porte della percezione)

The brain doesn't show reality: it reduces it. What if what we call "the world" were merely a simplified version, constructed to allow us to survive? With Aldous Huxley, we delve into one of the most radical hypotheses in the philosophy of perception: seeing less might be what keeps us alive. In this philosophical foray, we delve into the heart of a hypothesis as simple as it is destabilizing: perception is not a window onto reality, but a filter constructed to prevent us from succumbing to reality itself. Huxley takes a radical insight from Bergsonism and takes it to its extreme: the brain functions like a reduction valve that selects only what is useful for survival, leaving out an immense amount of possible experience. But what happens when this filter loosens? Another world doesn't appear. This world appears—finally seen. Flowers, a chair, the light on a fabric: everything becomes absolute presence, what Eckhart called Istigkeit, the naked being of the thing. From this perspective, Huxley corrects Plato and Schopenhauer: the essence is not elsewhere, but here, in the detail. And yet a crucial question arises: is this vision compatible with human life? With action, with relationships, with responsibility? Contemplation risks dissolving the world of others—and therefore ethics. Hence the paradox: liberated perception is true, but it is not enough to live. The lesson concludes with an unresolved tension: between seeing and acting, between knowledge and survival. The doors of perception must not simply be thrown open. They must be understood. 💡 Key phrase We do not see the world: we see what we need to avoid being overwhelmed by it. 🎧 Recommended Playlist CLINIC OF THE PRESENT 👉    • CLINICA DEL PRESENTE   Support the project 💳 Free donation to support the channel: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/confi... 📝 "Active student" subscription (previews and reserved materials):    / @scorribandefilosofiche   🔔 Subscribe to the channel to not miss the next Philosophical Excursions:    / channel   📚 Books – Philosophical Excursions Practical Philosophy Paths between Ancient and Modern 👉 https://francescodipalo.wordpress.com... 📘 Philosophy in the Garden (Epicureanism), paper/ebook, YCP 2025 https://francescodipalo.wordpress.com... 📘 Free Within (Epictetus), paper/ebook, YCP 2024 https://francescodipalo.wordpress.com... 📘 The Crutch (Existential Novel), ebook, YCP 2023 https://francescodipalo.wordpress.com... 📘 Philosophy under the Portico (Stoicism), paper/ebook, YCP 2023 https://francescodipalo.wordpress.com... 🧭 Philosophical Counseling Individual counseling based on dialogue, aimed at those who wish to address existential or decision-making questions through the tools of the philosophical tradition.
