Was passiert im Körper, wenn wir eine Woche Fasten?
Fasting leads to an impressive improvement in all metabolic parameters in the body. Currently, no medication can achieve this. This is what happens in our metabolism during fasting: In the first 6–24 hours, insulin levels begin to drop, and the body uses up its carbohydrate stores in the liver. Significant dehydration occurs, which already leads to a slight decrease in blood pressure. Norepinephrine levels rise, and consequently, energy expenditure increases slightly. After 1–3 days, the body switches to ketosis, or fasting metabolism, and derives its energy from fat stores. During this process, ketone bodies are produced, which are used for energy generation. The brain, in particular, thrives on this type of energy supply. Ketone bodies even have a protective function for the brain and nerve cells. It is believed that they alleviate inflammatory processes throughout the body. Fat burning is significantly boosted. At the same time, our gut microbiome is renewed: Harmful bacteria are weakened, while beneficial bacteria increase in diversity and stress resistance. An elevated somatotropin level ensures that muscle mass is maintained. Norepinephrine keeps the metabolic rate stable. Blood sugar and insulin levels remain at a healthy, low level. Furthermore, inflammation markers and blood pressure continue to decrease. Blood lipid levels improve significantly.
