E16: Convento de San Francisco | Historia completa y descripción | Capillas

CONVENT OF SAN FRANCISCO IN MEXICO CITY Continuing with this video series, we will now explore one of the largest convents in Mexico and New Spain. It was built at the expense of Hernán Cortés when the Franciscans arrived in 1525 and completed in its third reconstruction in 1716. The Franciscan convent is located between Madero, Venustiano Carranza, and Eje Central streets. It had six chapels, nine dormitories, 300 cells, an orchard, a garden, a cemetery, and the main nave, which we will describe one by one. If you'd like to see the second part of the video, where we discuss its destruction and current buildings, here's the link to the episode:    • E15: Destrucción del Convento de San Franc...   We invite you to watch the video collection about the former Convent of San Francisco, its history, its destruction, and the buildings that were subsequently constructed and still stand today.
