1549 Book of Common Prayer: Sung Eucharist Because the 1549 English-language Book of Common Prayer was first used publicly on Pentecost 1549, the Episcopal Church encourages all parishes to celebrate the Eucharist according to the 1549 BCP some time in the week following Pentecost each year. This year we celebrate a Sung Eucharist at 6.15pm on Wednesday 26 May using the music of John Merbecke, whose Book of Common Prayer Noted (1550), saw the first musical settings of Archbishop Cranmer's texts.
