We started a thrilling 2 AM night drive from Mettupalayam to Kotagiri en route to Masinagudi, and what we encountered in the pitch-dark woods of the Nilgiris was absolutely unbelievable! In this episode of our Nilgiris travel vlog, we are taking you on a hyper-thrilling midnight safari drive between Mettupalayam and Kotagiri. Driving through the dense forest canopy in the dead of night, the elevation drop brought a sudden, biting chillness—and a massive wave of wild animal encounters. During this midnight adventure, we came face-to-face with majestic Indian Gaurs looming in the dark, a phantom-like Sloth Bear that vanished into the woods, groups of wild Porcupines roaming right inside the main residential areas, Sambar Deer, and beautiful Chittals (Spotted Deer). But the ultimate climax happened when a tiny, mysterious kitten-like creature crossed our high beams—featuring rosette patterns and a long tail, it was either a vulnerable leopard cub or a highly rare, elusive Leopard Cat! Minutes later, we spotted a massive adult leopard prowling right outside a local home. We ended our wild night journey waiting at the infamous Kalhatti Road checkpost, getting ready for the dangerous 36 hairpin bends descent to Masinagudi! Get ready for some serious thrills!
