Our journey begins right after a wild safari and a quick lunch at Thorapally. From there, we enter the Mudumalai Forest checkpost and cross over the Kakkanallah border into Karnataka’s famous Bandipur Tiger Reserve. We then take the Chamarajanagar bypass route to enter the lesser-known but highly active Punajanur Forest Range (part of the BR Hills ecosystem) and then into Sathyamangalam. What we spotted live on the road: Hundreds of spotted deer grazing by the roadside. Massive Indian Gaurs (Bison) standing right next to the forest track. Multiple majestic solo wild elephants As the sun sets, we tackle the legendary and dangerous Dhimbam Ghats (27 Hairpin Bends). This region is famous for its steep layout, heavy truck breakdowns causing traffic jams, and its historical significance as the unbreakable forest fortress of Thiru Veerappanar. We safely descend down to Bannari Road and make our non-stop night run back to Chennai.
