Javanese Gamelan - LIVE TRADITIONAL INDONESIAN MUSIC - Java, Indonesia - A SLICE OF THE ORIENT

WELCOME BACK TO A SLICE OF THE ORIENT! Closing out our amazing month in Indonesia, we are excited to share with you all a Javanese gamelan performance recorded live in Yogyakarta, Indonesia! We where invited to join a local community in their village for a night of music, theatre and incredible energy! You might have seen our video earlier in the month showcasing Balinese gamelan, traditional Indonesian music utilising the same instruments, yet harnessing a drastically different sound. In contrast, Javanese gamelan has a much slower paced, melodic sound, as opposed to the fast, dynamic nature of Balinese gamelan, all whilst being deeply rooted in the same musical traditions. We met with local gamelan instrument maker, Wibowo, and were given a tour of his workshop, and treated to a lovely lunch before he kindly invited us to attend his community performance later that night. And although our comprehension was limited, we were immediately indoctrinated by the infectious energy of the crowd, and were made to feel incredibly welcome the whole night. Massive thank you to our friends Andy and Wibowo for introducing us to the community for letting us come along to experience such an incredible night of Indonesian culture! This episode marks the end of our time in Indonesia, an incredibly fulfilling experience for us both, filled with amazing music, rich culture and incredibly kind people.
