What is the Future of Mobility? | István Kapitány | Shell

As Global Executive Vice President for Shell's Retail business, István Kapitány oversees a network of 46,000 retail outlets across close to 80 countries, where half a million front-line service champions serve 30 million customers every day. This makes Shell the number one mobility retailer in the world, selling over 200 billion litres of fuel annually. As a corporate role, he is the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Shell Companies in Germany, the Executive Vice President of Europe Downstream, and also a board director of Raizen, one of the biggest companies in Brazil specializing in sugar and ethanol production and in fuel distribution. As a social role, István is the President of the Association of Executives in Hungary. István received the best CEO award in Hungary by Hewitt in 2001, the Manager of the year award in Hungary in 2018, and was elected to be European Industry Leader of the year in 2018 in London by NACS, the global industry organisation for petroleum and convenience retailing. István joined Shell in 1987. Since that time he has worked to build winning teams, drive financial results, optimize businesses, and market premium products. Prior to his current role in Retail, he has led a number of businesses in Shell’s Downstream division to success. István was President of Commercial Fuels and Lubricants Businesses for the Americas, based in Houston, where they were able to deliver significantly improved results by focusing on stronger customer engagement, world-class product innovations, breakthrough marketing programs supported by a visibly more engaged workforce. Before this, István was VP Retail for Europe and Africa. In addition to overseeing the 11,000 Shell service stations in this region, he worked across the business to help ensure efficient and aligned sales, manufacturing, and supply and distribution activities.
