Our first time trying durian, the King of Fruits, in Thailand. For years, we'd heard all about its rich flavor... and its unbelievably strong smell. We were always curious, but never brave enough to actually try it. That changed when we traveled to Rayong, one of Thailand's most famous durian-producing regions, in the middle of July during peak durian season. Before tasting fresh durian, we started the day at 7:00 a.m. with a visit to a local durian chip factory. We watched the entire production process, learned how unripe durians are turned into crispy chips, and picked up some freshly made durian chips before heading to Tapong Fruit Market.
