Cold Front Kayak Fishing | Lessons Learned Before My Big Upgrade

After an incredible 3-day full moon fishing run, Florida gave me a reality check. This cold front trip started at 28 degrees, I forgot my Muck boots, and the bite was nowhere near what it had been the week before — but it still became an important part of the story. This trip was a cold one. On November 12th, 2025, I launched out of Fort Island Trail on Florida’s Nature Coast the day before my eye surgery — and the same day my new Garmin trolling motor arrived at the house. The morning started at 28 degrees, and I realized I forgot my Muck boots at home. Somehow, I managed to keep my feet dry for most of the day, but once the wind picked up and the waves got bigger, that changed pretty quickly. The fishing was tough compared to the full moon phase series before this one. I only landed a couple of fish, including a black sea bass, and I hooked into my first flounder, but it came off right at the kayak. The rest of the day was a mix of spooking redfish, floating over a giant black drum, and learning a few cold-front lessons the hard way. Even though the bite was slow, this trip still feels like part of the story. At the end of the day, I got home and found the Garmin box waiting in front of the garage, so I finished the video with a quick unboxing and setup for the next chapter. Thanks for watching and following along with Nature Coast Outdoors. Some of the gear I use on the kayak: YoloTek — GoPro power and camera mounting gear You may know, but I use YOLOtek gear to power my action camera. YOLOtek says #AlwaysBeRecording and there is nothing like knowing you got it all on video. Have you ever had a GoPro battery die at the wrong time? Not anymore with YOLOtek!
