Severino Honorato e a tradição do cordel na literatura brasileira

During the Festa Junina season, the "Conversation with the Author" program discusses the cultural roots of Northeastern Brazil to celebrate this popular festival. It is with this perspective that we also celebrate Cordel Literature with its power and strength. Katy Navarro welcomes the cordel poet Severino Honorato to talk about the verses that sing with their rhymes and enchant with their verses. Severino Honorato is a poet, cordel writer, author, and cultural agent from Paraíba, based in Rio de Janeiro since 1984. He is a researcher and one of the directors of the Brazilian Academy of Cordel Literature. Severino continues his cultural activities in schools, streets, fields, construction sites, and promotes workshops and a reading club at the park library. Author of "Flor da favela" and "A deforma da providência" (RPC Editora), he focuses on social themes, nature, and life in the sertão (backlands). Severino improvises verses and recites cordel poems on the program, in addition to discussing the importance and history of cordel literature. He explains how the verse metrics are constructed and how cordel literature influences the language of so many boys and girls who learn to read, often with cordel pamphlets. He has published over 100 cordel pamphlets, including the largest cordel pamphlet in the world. "It's not the one with the most verses, but it's the one with the 30x45 format, with 12 pages, which makes it physically large compared to the standard. He came to Rio in 1984 to spend a year, through a church pastoral program, with the intention of deepening his writing. He stayed in the city and today is one of the leading figures in cordel literature in the country.
