Sérgio França fala sobre a biografia do editor de livros Ênio Silveira, perseguido pela ditadura
Journalist Katy Navarro interviews writer, journalist, and editor Sérgio França on the "Conversation with the Author" program. He holds a doctorate in Political History and Cultural Heritage from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation and has approximately thirty years of experience in the publishing market and research on the role of editors in Brazilian culture. Sérgio França recently launched the book "Ênio Silveira, the editor who defied the dictatorship." The work recounts the story and thought of Ênio da Silveira and his denunciations as editor of Editora Civilização Brasileira during the period of the military dictatorship in Brazil. Sérgio explains on the program that the book is a record of historical research from the editor's childhood to his work at Companhia Editora Nacional and the refounding of Civilização Brasileira. The chapters show the various challenges faced by the editor during the most intense period of censorship and the persecution he suffered at work and in his personal life. The narrative exposes Ênio da Silveira's strength, but also his fragility over the time he fought for a more just country. Sérgio França explains in the program that the publishing house was eventually bought by the Portuguese banker Manuel Boullosa, a fact little known to Brazilians today. Sérgio says that the book narrates events and makes clear the resistance and victory, years later, of Brazilian democracy and culture. The work seeks to show the reader the importance of the publisher Ênio da Silveira in the production of books and the choice of editions that represented Brazil and national sovereignty, always focusing on democracy and a country that would better welcome future generations.
