Rome Grand Campaign #2 | The Last Battle of Pyrrhus (278 BC) | Total War Rome 2 DEI

Winter, 278 BC Following his defeat at Beneventum, King Pyrrhus withdrew towards Taras in an attempt to preserve what remained of his army. The Roman pursuit was relentless. Before the Epirote king could reach the safety of the city, the Legio II Equestris intercepted his forces on the outskirts of Taras, forcing another engagement. The battle ended in a decisive Roman victory. The Epirote army suffered heavy losses, and King Pyrrhus himself fell on the battlefield. With the main Epirote army destroyed and no significant forces remaining in southern Italy, Rome secured its position in Magna Graecia and gained the initiative in the war. The road to Taras now lay open.
