VENICE, CA — Tuesday, July 15, 2025 — A coordinated multi-agency cleanup operation unfolded Tuesday morning along 4th Street in Venice as part of the City of Los Angeles’ ongoing effort to improve sanitation, public safety, and accessibility in areas impacted by street encampments. Several unhoused individuals were camping on the sidewalk when police officers arrived to oversee the cleanup. Officers asked the individuals to vacate the area so sanitation crews could proceed. The individuals complied, and any items left behind were collected and discarded by cleanup personnel. Shortly after, crews discovered an unrelated illegal dump site further down the street. The items included a discarded couch, a hot water heater, and—unusually—a kitchen sink. All items were removed by sanitation workers. The cleanup was carried out by teams from the Los Angeles Department of Public Works and Clean Harbors Environmental Services, with support from LAPD officers enforcing compliance with municipal codes. No arrests or citations were issued during the operation. A staff member from Councilwoman Traci Park’s office was present to assist with coordination and observe proceedings, highlighting the city's stated approach of combining enforcement with outreach. These cleanups are part of a broader city initiative to maintain clean and safe public spaces while offering support services to unhoused residents, including access to resources and potential pathways to housing.
