Is Structure Force INTERNAL? Qi and Internal Chinese Martial Arts

In Taijiquan, structure-based body force relies on proper alignment, skeletal structure, and mechanical leverage to generate power. It emphasizes postural integrity, weight transfer, and ground connection to create a stable and efficient force. This method is biomechanical and can be effective even without deep internal training; however, it is, in fact, just a first step of the practice. Qi-powered internal Jin force (內勁) integrates Qi cultivation, producing power that feels soft yet penetrating because it is "dense." Internal Jin originates from the Dantian, spreads through the body's connected inner tissue system, and expresses power in a relaxed yet unified manner. Unlike brute strength, it focuses on issuing force (發勁) in a wave-like, whole-body manner, and this feeling is often described as "steel wrapped in cotton." In essence, structure-based force is externally evident and mechanical, while internal Jin is refined, subtle, and energy-driven.
