Most commercial facilities in rural areas are facing a difficult situation due to the impact of population decline and an aging population with a declining birthrate. Even supermarkets that were a common sight are closing, and stores that once drew customers thanks to the supermarkets are also closing one after another, creating a negative spiral in which the entire facility is often closed. In Tokyo or Osaka, closed commercial facilities are quickly demolished and redeveloped, but this is not the case in rural areas. Many cases involve the facility being left as is because no new plans have been decided, or because of the complex circumstances unique to rural areas. The ruins of a former commercial facility introduced here are one such example. It closed eight years ago but has been left abandoned ever since, and no decision has been made on what to do with the site. It once attracted many people from the surrounding area as a commercial facility representing the city, but now it has become a negative legacy that cannot be demolished.
