GRO VAKAR (1901–1937) (real name - Hryhoriy Vasylyovych Vakar) - Ukrainian writer and futurist poet. A representative of the generation of "Shooted Renaissance". Born in 1901 in a peasant family in the village of Mirony (now Odesa region). Since 1923 he lived in Odessa, where he studied as an agronomist at the agricultural institute and published his poems in the district newspaper "Chervonyi Step". After receiving higher education, in 1927 he moved to Kharkiv, where he joined the literary association "New Generation". He worked as a clerk, published poems in the magazines "Vsesvit" and "New Generation". Since 1934 he has lived in Kyiv. Known primarily as a bright representative of Ukrainian futurism. He was friends with the poet Oleksa Vlyzko. In 1932 he published the anti-colonial novel "Trains Will Go to Paris". He also wrote a book of documentary prose "Rumi Cuts the Arabs", based on the stories of a former member of the French Foreign Legion in Africa. In the summer of 1934 he was first arrested by the Soviet secret services, but a few months later he was released under a recognizance not to leave. In November 1934, Vakar was arrested again, and in March 1935 he was sentenced to five years in camps. He served his sentence on Solovki. Shot on November 3, 1937 in the Sandarmokh tract (Karelia) during mass executions. Rehabilitated posthumously in 1959 by the judicial panel of the Supreme Court of the Ukrainian SSR and in 1965 by the Arkhangelsk Regional Court.
