From Small Things: Episode 32: Pointed Progress

Welcome back! I've had a busy week in the sewing room, and have managed to cross some things off of my to-do list. First, I have finished piecing my green and white checkerboard quilt top. This was made with 2 1/2" squares from my scrap drawer, and some string pieced squares of whites/neutrals making up two borders on this top. This felt like a great way to manage my scraps, and I'm always struck by how much I like something as simple as a four-patch block. I'm still not sure, but am feeling like I will send this top to my sister's guild to finish and donate to charity. In that case, I will probably make a few more tops and send them all at once. I have also finished up my Cathedral Windows blocks! All that needs to be done yet is to attach a hanging sleeve, and hang it on my wall. But, every time I look at it I feel that it is missing binding... there's a good chance I'll try to bind the edges, although I have never seen binding on Cathedral Windows. I hope it works out, and I'll let you know how it goes. I also put together a pillow for my friend using her grandmother's Dresden Plate block.... one project done! I took five other Dresden Plates and put them together for a small quilt, but needed an alternating block to put between them; so I made four more small Dresdens out of fabric also from her grandmother, which was already cut into blades. However, they had rounded ends and I was just not in the mood for that, apparently! I made them pointed instead, and I will show you an old trick for how to get nice, precise points. I would also like to share a YouTube channel I've just started watching, and am enjoying: it is called String & Scissors, and I love the unique work she is doing. Check her out if you're looking for something new! ‪@stringscissors‬ on YouTube. I will also have an additional, special episode out this week, so check back if you're interested! I hope you are having a great time in your sewing room!
