Carlsen vs Abdusattorov | World Team Blitz Quarterfinals 2026

Featured is a nice positional chess game between Magnus Carlsen and Nodirbek Abdusattorov from the Quarterfinals of the 2026 FIDE World Team Blitz Chess Championship, held in Hong Kong. Arising out of the Semi-Slav Defense, Carlsen opts to quickly resolve the central tension with 5.cxd5 before developing his dark-squared bishop. After 15 moves, we reach a queenless endgame with a minor piece imbalance and multiple sets of doubled pawns for Carlsen. What follows is an instructive demonstration of positional endgame play. #MagnusCarlsen #NodirbekAbdusattorov Image of Magnus Carlsen by Lennart Ootes lennartootes.com I'm a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8.
