The Unexpected Beauty of Being Catholic at the Edge of the Christian World

What does it actually look like to live a Catholic life in one of the least Christian countries on earth? Here is my Catholic Conversion Story. Japan is 1% Christian. Catholicism makes up just 0.3% of the population. I live in Hokkaido — the far northern island — where those numbers are even smaller. I'm Charles, an American who has called Hokkaido home for 19 years. About 18 months ago I converted to Catholicism — and everything changed. The way I start my morning, what I read, how I see the world around me. All of it. This channel — Exile and the Eucharist — is my honest account of what it looks like to live this ancient faith in modern Japan. The daily rhythm, the isolation, the unexpected beauty of being a Catholic at the edge of the Christian world. ⏱️ Chapters: 00:00 Introduction 00:30 Catholic Life in Japan — The Numbers 02:00 What Daily Life Actually Looks Like 05:00 How My Lifestyle Changed After Converting 08:00 What Japan Has Taught Me About Faith 10:00 Final Thoughts 📧 Contact: [email protected] New videos every week.
