KOMPAS.TV Iran has begun transporting the coffin of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei from Tehran as part of the funeral procession. Ali Khamenei's body is scheduled to be taken to the city of Qom before continuing on to neighboring Iraq. On the third day of the funeral procession, Monday, thousands of people filled the streets of Tehran to welcome the coffin of Ali Khamenei and his family. The coffin was carried on a truck that moved slowly amidst the crowd of mourners. Some residents were seen extending their hands and throwing scarves and other items toward the truck as a sign of respect. The coffin of Ali Khamenei and his family is scheduled to travel approximately 12 hours to Mehrabad International Airport before departing for its next destination. Residents also gathered at several points in Tehran, including Enghelab Square, also known as Revolution Square, to watch the procession. During the funeral procession, Iranian authorities closed several roads and airspace, and halted various activities as part of the mourning period. On a separate occasion, Qasem Muhammadi, a lecturer at the International Institute for Islamic Studies in Iran, stated that Iranians are not afraid of an attack. He stated that the red flags carried by some citizens symbolize their demand for revenge for the death of Ali Khamenei.
