IRAN, KOMPAS.TV - Iranians crowded the Grand Mosalla in Tehran to attend the initial procession of the national funeral for the late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Local authorities officially unveiled Khamenei's coffin in a special glass casket. Cries erupted as the coffin was unveiled. Iranians also continued to chant demands for revenge for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's death. Khamenei died at the age of 86, following an Israeli airstrike at the start of the war on February 28, which led to a tit-for-tat exchange between Iran and the United States. Several state delegations also paid their respects to the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Starting Saturday, Iran will hold funeral ceremonies for Khamenei. The Supreme Leader's body will be taken around cities in Iran and neighboring Iraq before being buried. The Iranian government has asked the public, government employees, and military personnel to fill the streets to pay their final respects to Khamenei. Khamenei, who led Iran for nearly four decades, died on February 28 as the US and Israel were both waging war. Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev also attended the funeral of the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran. Video footage showed Medvedev arriving at the Imam Khomeini Mosque, where he stood in front of Khamenei's coffin ahead of the funeral service. Iranian authorities said mourners could pay their respects in Tehran for two days. The funeral procession is scheduled for July 6, before the ceremony moves to Qom on July 7. Iranians continue to flock to Tehran for the funeral procession. The question remains: will Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's son, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who has succeeded his father as Supreme Leader of Iran, attend the funeral?
