Lalita in Parnasalankam

Prekshaka 2026 Koodiyattam Festival at Vazhenkada Kunchu Nair Memorial Trust, Karalmanna, featured five selected episodes from Parnasalankam Koodiyattam, Act I of Sakthibhadra's Ascharyachoodamani. On the first day Kalamandalam Sangeetha presented Lalita's (Soorpanakha) Nirvahanam or Retrospective. Gist of Story : After Soorpanakha's husband is killed in war, her brother Ravana asks her to choose any person of her liking in all the worlds as her husband and send s her off with generals and 30,000 troops. She goes to Heaven but rejects Indra, Agni, Varuna and other gods for various reasons. She returns to earth and is infatuated on seeing Rama on the banks of Godavari. Soorpanakha is disgusted by her demoness form and with her magical powers transforms into the beautiful Lalita. Then she decides to approach Rama and ask him to take her as his wife.
