I visited an area in Akita Prefecture that is said to be the most bear-infested, and interviewed local residents. What I heard on the ground was the raw truth that is rarely told on the news, and the tense reality of everyday life constantly living side by side with danger. Some of the voices I heard were from people who had actually experienced personal injury, which gradually revealed the emotions behind the reports and the background to the controversy. As I continued my reporting, I headed to a spot where there were reports of bear sightings, and indeed, I found goto (traces) at the site, and was able to capture a bear on camera. The next day, I visited an apple orchard, to hear about the current state of damage and speak to farmers. What I discovered was that the bear problem is not simply a "bear" problem. I realized that the current situation is the result of a combination of various factors: labor shortages due to an aging population, fields and farmland that are no longer properly maintained, and the proliferation of wild animals due to lack of human care. Right after we finished our interview at the apple orchard, a bear unexpectedly appeared. About an hour later, we had to chase the bear away with Mr. Hakamada (a local listener).
