My year with EF after retiring

Following her retirement as an ultrasound technologist, Patricia moved to Rome to learn Italian with EF and build a new life abroad. What started as a year-long language course at the EF campus in Rome became a journey of friendship, confidence, and personal growth. Like many people, Patricia wasn’t sure what it would be like to move away for such a long period and start from the beginning somewhere new. Surrounded by students of every age from around the world, she discovered over time that learning a language is about much more than vocabulary and grammar; it's about connection, community, and leaning into growth. Her story shows that what can feel daunting at first often leads to unexpected discoveries, personal transformation, and the start of an exciting new chapter.
