1977 ALCS, Game 5 (Yankees-Royals) (WMCA Radio)

The Yankees were three outs away from extinction when they staged a dramatic three run 9th inning rally against the Royals to win Game 5 of the 1977 ALCS and their second straight pennant en route to their first World Series title in 15 years. This is the full WMCA radio broadcast with Phil Rizzuto, Frank Messer and Bill White with complete pregame only by Mel Allen and John Sterling. Sadly, due to tape deterioration and mishandling the postgame by Mel and John was lost (John's opening line is left in which will give you an idea of the deterioration that made the whole thing unlistenable) and I had to use another recording to rescue most of the 9th inning and signoff. I compensate for the missing postgame by including from another source, a Mutual Radio newscast from after the game that recaps it as the top story.
