Star Spangled Redneck
There are some songs that sound great in a recording studio. And then there are some songs that simply demand a stage. "Star-Spangled Redneck" is one of those songs. When I first started writing this song, I tried to imagine it as a traditional studio recording. But the more I worked on it, the more I realized that the heart of this song wasn't meant to be locked inside four walls. It was meant to feel alive. It was meant to feel loud. It was meant to capture the energy, pride, and spirit of the people it was written about. This song is a tribute to the farmers who feed us, the truckers who keep America moving, the workers who build it, the veterans who defended it, and the families who still believe in faith, freedom, and hard work. It's about small towns, back roads, worn-out Bibles, dusty boots, and the values that have helped shape generations of Americans. That's why I ultimately chose to produce it as a live recording. Not because I wanted the crowd to become part of the song, but because I wanted the energy of a live performance to help bring the song to life. I wanted it to feel like a Southern rock anthem that could shake the walls, rattle the speakers, and remind us of the things that still bring us together. Whether you agree with every word or not, I hope you can feel the pride, gratitude, and respect that went into writing it. Turn this one up LOUD!!! "Star Spangled Redneck" By: Keith Michael Rau Intro "Tonight we're gonna celebrate freedom..." "Tonight we're gonna celebrate faith..." "Tonight we're gonna celebrate the greatest country on earth..." "So give it up for the land of the free..." "...and the home of the brave!" Verse One Sun comes up on a gravel road ridge John boat tied beneath an old wood bridge Truck fired up with a thunderous roar Freedom ain't a word, it's what we're living for Mama taught grace and Daddy taught grit Stand your ground and never quit We've got scars and sweat and a little respect That's the heart of a star-spangled redneck Pre-Chorus We ain't looking for a handout line Just a fair day's pay and a little moonshine Chorus I'm a star-spangled redneck, born and raised free Thanking God above for this land and liberty Got a worn-out Bible and some dust on my boots Still believe in hard work and telling the truth I'm a star-spangled redneck, and I ain't ashamed To love this country and the good Lord's name From the mountains to the coastline, proud as I can be I'm a star-spangled redneck, that's the American in me Verse Two Small-town diner and a Friday night game Everybody there knows everybody's name When the storm rolls in and the river runs high You'll see neighbors showing up side by side We've got farmers, welders, cops, and vets Building tomorrow with their blood and sweat No silver spoons and no big checks Just a whole lot of star-spangled rednecks Pre-Chorus We ain't looking for a handout line Just a fair day's pay and a little moonshine Chorus I'm a star-spangled redneck, born and raised free Thanking God above for this land and liberty Got a worn-out Bible and some dust on my boots Still believe in hard work and telling the truth I'm a star-spangled redneck, and I ain't ashamed To love this country and the good Lord's name From the mountains to the coastline, proud as I can be I'm a star-spangled redneck, that's the American in me Bridge A white stone row on a hillside high Tells the story better than you and I Young men answered when duty called Some came home, some gave it all Because freedom's a seed that was bought and sown By generations we'll never know Their sacrifice is what protects The dream of every star-spangled redneck Final Chorus I'm a star-spangled redneck, born and raised free Thanking God above for this land and liberty Got a worn-out Bible and some dust on my boots Still believe in hard work and telling the truth I'm a star-spangled redneck, and I ain't ashamed To love this country and the good Lord's name From sea to shining sea, let the whole world see The American dream is alive in me I'm a star-spangled redneck, and I proudly stand For every soul who helped build this land For the ones who came home and the ones who gave their all Their sacrifice still answers freedom's call Yeah, I'm a star-spangled redneck, and I'll always be Thanking God above for this land and liberty Outro Raise 'em high! For the farmers in the fields! For the truckers on the road! For the workers on the line! For the soldiers standing guard! For the small-town dreams! For the red, white, and blue! And the land that still believes! We're still free! We're still strong! Still singing the same old song! Star-spangled redneck! Star-spangled redneck! Born free! Stand tall! Thank God for it all! Star-spangled redneck! Star-spangled redneck! God bless America! ©2026 Keith Michael Rau All Rights Reserved.
