I Visited Laitlum Canyon in Dry Season and It Looked Like This | Meghalaya
Laitlum Canyon in the dry season looks completely different. Most people wait for the monsoon to see the "green" Meghalaya, but there is a specific, quiet beauty to this place when the hills turn golden and the crowds disappear. In this video, I’m taking you from the silent edge of the East Khasi Hills back into the beating heart of Shillong. What happens in this video:Laitlum Canyon (meaning "end of the hills") is usually covered in mist and thick clouds. But in March, the air is clear, the grass is brown, and you can see right down to the valley floor without any interruption. Because it’s the "off-season," the usual tourist rush is gone. I’ll show you the main viewpoints, the local food stalls at the entrance (where you can get some of the best local snacks), and what it’s like to have one of the most dramatic spots in India almost entirely to yourself. Then, we head back to Shillong. The contrast is immediate. We go from the "End of the Hills" straight into the energy of Police Bazaar. I’m driving you through the market area at night so you can see the other side of Meghalaya—the neon lights, the street food, the traffic, and the local life that makes Shillong the "Rock Capital of India."It’s a transition day, a bridge between the canyons and the city, and a necessary part of the journey through the Northeast.📍 Travel Tips for this Route: Laitlum Canyon Entrance: Nominal fee of ₹20-30. The Food Stalls: Don't skip these—try the local tea and snacks near the parking area; it’s the best way to support the local community there. Shillong Traffic: If you’re heading to Police Bazaar, try to go after 7 PM or on foot. Driving through it is an experience, but parking is nearly impossible. Best Season: March is perfect for photography if you want clear, long-distance views of the gorge without the fog. 🗺️ MEGHALAYA SERIES — Episode 6 This series is almost at its end.
