Darkwood is a great example of a small group of passionate, ambitious developers releasing a title that puts many other titles to shame with a fraction of the budget. Three college friends from Poland who were easily scared created a survival horror title that didn't rely on jumpscares and ended up with one of the best, unique horror experiences to come out in the last few years with Darkwood. Darkwood is unforgiving and bleak, in the style that only Eastern European developers can do. Darkwood uses several contentious game mechanics, yet manages to enhance the experience through them instead of frustrating the player. Darkwood is one of those games that has sat in the backlog for a while. Something I bought on sale years past but never got around to it until now. I wish I played Darkwood sooner.
