This is due to his love for the people surrounding the mosque who welcomed him upon his first arrival in Medina. His love is evident in his habit of regularly setting aside time to visit the Quba Mosque; scholars even say he visited it weekly. In the book of Sahih Bukhari it is stated, كانَ النبيُّ صلَّى اللهُ عليه وسلَّمَ يَأْتي مَسْجِدَ قُباءٍ كُلَّ سَبْتٍ ماشِيًا وراكِبًا. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to visit the Quba Mosque every Saturday. He would go there on foot or on horseback. And Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) did the same.” (HR. Bukhari no. 1193 and Muslim no. 1399) In another hadith, the friend of Ibn Umar explains the sunnah of visiting the Quba mosque in more detail, God willing الضُّحَى إلَّا في يَومَيْنِ: يَومَ يَقْدَمُ بمَكَّةَ؛ فإنَّه كانَ يَقْدَمُها ضُحًى فَيَطُوفُ بالبَيْتِ، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي رَكْعتَيْنِ خَلْفَ المَقامِ، ويَومَ يَأْتي مَسْجِدَ قُباءٍ؛ فإنَّه كانَ يأْتِيهِ كُلَّ سَبْتٍ، فإذا دَخَلَ المَسْجِدَ name يُحَدِّثُ: أنَّ رَسولَ اللَّهِ صلَّى اللهُ عليه وسلَّمَ كانَ يَزُورُهُ راكِبًا message: message: message: message أصْحابِي يَصْنَعُونَ، ولا أمْنَعُ أحَدًا أنْ يُصَلِّيَ في أيِّ ساعةٍ God willing الشَّمْسِ And the Most High. “Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, did not perform the Dhuha prayer except on two days: (1) the day he arrived in Makkah, because he arrived there at the time of Dhuha, then circumambulated the Kaaba, then prayed two rak'ahs behind the Station of Ibrahim; and (2) the day he came to the Quba Mosque, because he used to go there every Saturday, and when he entered the mosque, he would not leave it until he had prayed inside. He said, narrating the situation at that time, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to visit it (the Quba Mosque) both riding and walking.” He (Abdullah ibn Umar) said again, "Indeed, I do as I saw my companions do, and I do not forbid anyone from praying at any time they wish, whether night or day. However, do not deliberately choose to pray at sunrise or sunset." (Narrated by Bukhari no. 1191) For those who are in Medina, whether for Hajj or Umrah, it is highly recommended to come and pray at the Quba Mosque, as this is one of the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), which he practiced regularly. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also informed us of the great reward for those who come to the Quba Mosque and perform the prayer, at least two rak'ahs. He said in a hadith narrated by friend Sahl bin Hunaif radhiyallahu ‘anhu, God willing فَصَلَّى فِيهِ صَلاَةً كَانَ لَهُ كَأَجْرِ عُمْرَةٍ "Anyone Whoever purifies himself in his house, then comes to the Quba Mosque and prays there, his reward is like that of Umrah.” (Narrated by Ibn Majah no. 1412, An-Nasai no. 699. Al-Hafizh Abu Thahir said that this hadith is hasan) In a hadith narrated by Tirmidhi, it is stated differently: The reward of prayer in the Quba Mosque is like that of Umrah. "Praying in the Quba Mosque is like that of Umrah." (HR. Tirmidhi no. 324 and Ibnu Majah no. 1411. Al-Hafizh Abu Thahir said that this hadith is hasan) If a person performs ablution first from where he lives, then goes to the Quba mosque and prays two rak'ahs in it, he will get a reward equivalent to the reward for performing the Umrah pilgrimage. This is indeed a very big priority and must be utilized by Muslims when they are in the city of Medina. There is also a great virtue for those who revive the sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam, teach it, and then many Muslims join in bringing it to life. Wallahu a'lam bisshowaab.
