Sony TV No Power? Girl Finds Short on T-Con Board - Fixes with Spare Capacitors!

Is your Sony TV completely dead with no power light? Don't rush to buy a new TV! In this video, I fix a Sony 55X8000E with a shorted T-Con board. Watch how I found the problem and replaced bad capacitors with spare parts from an old board! The problem: This Sony 55X8000E TV was completely dead. No power light, no response, nothing. The owner thought it was time to buy a new TV . The initial diagnosis: 🔹 I opened the TV and tested the power supply 🔹 The power board was sending 12V to the main board 🔹 But something was pulling the voltage down immediately The isolation method (how I found the problem): 🔹 I disconnected the cable between the main board and the T-con board 🔹 When I did this, the main board powered up normally 🔹 The LED backlight came on, and the optical light showed red 🔹 This told me the T-con board was shorted What I found on the T-con board: 🔹 I removed the T-con board and inspected it carefully 🔹 Found shorted capacitors on the 12V power filter circuit 🔹 One capacitor was completely bad, causing the entire TV to shut down The fix: 🔹 I searched my spare parts collection and found an old board with good capacitors 🔹 Removed the shorted capacitors from the Sony T-con board 🔹 Soldered the working capacitors from the donor board in their place 🔹 Cleaned the area and checked for any other shorts The result: The TV powered on perfectly! The T-con board now works, the picture is beautiful, and the TV is fully functional! ✨ How much did this cost? Almost nothing! I reused capacitors from an old board. A new T-con board would cost $50-100. A new Sony 55" TV would cost $600-900. This repair saved hundreds of dollars! What you can learn from this video: ✅ Isolation is key - Disconnect components to find where the short is ✅ T-con boards can fail - They are often repairable, not replaceable ✅ Shorted capacitors are common - They can kill the whole TV ✅ Keep old boards for spare parts - One capacitor can save a TV (Timestamps): 0:00 - The problem: Sony 55X8000E has no power light 0:30 - Testing power supply - 12V present 1:00 - Isolation method: disconnecting T-con board 2:00 - Main board works! Understanding the T-Con Board: 📌 WHAT IS A T-CON BOARD? Term Meaning T-Con Timing Controller Function Controls the screen's timing and signal distribution Location Connected between main board and screen Common failures Shorted capacitors, burnt ICs, damaged connectors Symptoms of a bad T-con board: TV won't turn on (shorts the power supply) TV turns on but no picture Vertical or horizontal lines on screen Flickering or distorted image TV shuts down immediately after powering on Why isolation is important: Disconnecting the T-con board is a quick way to test if it's causing the problem. If the main board powers up without it, the T-con is likely bad . Tips for Finding Spare Capacitors: 📌 HOW TO FIND DONOR CAPACITORS: 1️⃣ Look for the same specs - Same voltage and capacitance (uF) is best 2️⃣ Slightly higher voltage is OK - For example, 25V instead of 16V 3️⃣ Same capacitance is required - Don't change the uF value 4️⃣ Use low ESR capacitors - High-quality caps last longer 5️⃣ Test capacitors before using - Use a multimeter to check they're good One old board can provide capacitors for many future repairs! ⚠️ DISCLAIMER - IMPORTANT: • Capacitors can hold charge even after unplugging. Be careful when working on power circuits . • The T-con board is connected to the fragile screen. Handle with extreme care . • When testing with T-con disconnected, don't leave the TV on for too long without a load . • Make sure capacitor polarity is correct when soldering new ones. Reversing polarity can cause explosions . • If you're not experienced, watch for educational purposes and consult a professional . • This video is for educational purposes only. Thanks for watching!
